1. The Professional Board has created a CATEGORY but not a REGISTER for neuropsychologists and therefore interns cannot register as neuropsychology interns or neuropsychologists until such time as the register is promulgated into law.
2. This was the fault of the Professional Board and we had sought permission from the Professional Board before allowing students to start the MA in Neuropsychology. We had therefore acted in ‘good faith’ in offering the programme this year.
3. The Professional Board has made alternative arrangements for the current (2012) class of 6 MA Neuropsychology students but has made no guarantees for future classes of MA Neuropsychology classes until the register is promulgated.
4. The Department will therefore not be offering the MA in Neuropsychology in 2013, but we expect to offer it in 2014 (or we will convey more up-to-date information as soon as we have it)
5. We will continue to offer our Neuropsychology-related courses at Third year and Honours (and possibly also at Masters level) and we are committed to re-offer the MA Neuropsychology degree as soon as we have confirmation from the Professional Board.
6. We understand that UCT will continue to offer a Masters in Neuropsychology if students wish to apply for that programme but we can make no guarantees that the UCT programme will lead to registration as a psychologist. Queries in that regard should be directed to UCT.
